SIL 3/PL e compliant absolute positioning with a single sensor. With the latest generation of positioning systems, the Mannheim-based company has again succeeded in developing a pioneering solution; for the very first time, the safePXV system provides SIL 3/PL e compliant safe absolute positioning using only one sensor.
SIL 3/PL e compliant safe absolute positioning has been virtually unachievable for plant operators to date owing to the substantial amounts of time and money involved. Redundant systems with different sensors and different technologies needed to be constructed. Additionally, a plausibility check of the data in the safe control system was necessary, and the overall development process needed to be monitored by TÜV and ultimately approved.
The safePXV manages all this with a single positioning system and just one sensor. The new safety technology combines a 2-D reader with a three-colored Data Matrix code tape. The special code tape contains two overlapping Data Matrix codes in red and blue. The 2-D reader is equipped with two different colored LED rings <nonbreaking-hyphen> also red and blue. These rings are activated separately and then read just one Data Matrix code each. An SIL 3/PL e absolute position is always provided as the result.
The safePXV system is suited for safe absolute positioning in monorail conveyors, stacker cranes in the field of warehousing and material handling, rotary tables in mechanical engineering, elevator construction, and wind turbines in the field of renewable energies. As well as safety and reliability, ease of handling was of enormous importance when developing the system. The mounting procedure could not be quicker or easier. The code tape is already supplied in the appropriate length and simply needs to be adhered in place. Following approximate alignment of the reader, additional parameterization can be carried out directly via the safety control system using the Profinet-GSDML file. pb
